Position Summary
Octagon Research Solutions is currently seeking a Sr. Application Development Lead to join the Octagon EDC Software Development team to build customer solutions based on the ORS .NET electronic data collection (EDC) platform for clinical trials and data management. 

This position will combine both hands-on ASP.NET web application software development experience with the demonstrated (references) ability to effectively manage multiple small (2-3 programmers) teams operating locally and remotely. This position will require an individual who is very comfortable and even-tempered in managing a context of changing requirements, in a highly regulated industry and delivering high quality, globally deployed  applications into the Bio-Pharma clinical informatics arena. Some knowledge of clinical operations and clinical data standards (CDISC) in the Bio-Pharma area would be very useful. 

This role will be responsible for both application development on specific customer projects and managing the other application development teams to meet delivery timelines and functionality. The software implementation of customer specific projects based on the Octagon EDC Platform and guided by the activities defined in the Application Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). The Sr. Application Development Lead will work closely with the Manager of Software Development and EDC Platform Engineering team to understand the capabilities and constraints of the EDC platform and participate in the discussion of features and tools that would speed-up and reduce the overall cost of customer implementations.  The primary goal of this position is to ensure the timely delivery of high quality EDC applications to Octagon’s customers.

Requirements and Qualifications
Position requires background in full lifecycle software development including specification, coding, testing and release management. Specific requirements:

  • Ability to clearly, precisely and unambiguously communicate (English) verbally and in writing to customers and Octagon team members
  • 7+ years of overall software development experience and 4+ years of specific management of application development teams and deliveries
  • 4+ years of progressively deeper experience in developing web based software applications using the .NET Framework (ASP.NET, C#, Visual Studio IDE, HTML, Javascript, AJAX)
  • 3+ year experience in authoring stored procedures and UDF in Transact-SQL on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 with Integration Services and/or Reporting Services
  • 3+ years experience in developing applications using XML technologies, e.g. XPath, XSLT
  • Ability to work cooperatively with project managers to identifying work completion levels and work remaining
  • Demonstrated ability to manage one’s own work and time based on the project plan, assigned tasks and milestones, and direct one’s own efforts effectively
  • A solid understanding of HTML, databases, messaging services, enterprise application integration, and other Internet, security, and software technologies is a plus
  • Knowledge of quality assurance processes in a FDA regulated software development environment is a plus
  • BS/BA in Computer Science or related fields

Desirable

  • Experience and knowledge of clinical trials, CRFs and clinical ops related processes
  • Software implementation experience in regulated environments (e.g. FDA)  in compliance with regulatory SOPs and WIs
